Today marks the launch of the Italian Video Games Database (IVGD), the most complete and in-depth repository on the Italian video game industry created by Excaliber. A database designed to gather in one place all the information needed by anyone who wants to learn more about the video game landscape of the Bel Paese, as well as to give it visibility on an international level. It is available at this link.
The IVGD is made up of three elements that constantly interact with each other, easy to navigate both on desktop and mobile devices.
- Interactive Map. By exploring a map of Italy presented in a pleasant pixel art style, illustrated by Manuel Labbate, it is possible to click on the various regions to activate territorial filters, which through the studio directory and the video game database allow users to discover who operates in those areas and which video games have been produced in the various cities.
- Directory of Development Studios. To fully discover the Italian industry, a detailed list of the development studios operating in the country is essential. Through the directory it is possible to have a precise picture of who the companies and developers active in Italy are and where they are based. For those who want to go into more detail, it is possible to manually activate filters to discover the density of studios by region – in addition to the map. For each studio, a reference website is available, as well as the possibility of viewing the titles developed – by activating the specific filter that interacts with the database.
- Video Games Database. The beating heart of the IVGD. It contains the profiles with details of over 250 titles developed by various studios. It is easy to navigate and highly customizable: filters can be applied for genre, platforms, development status or year of release, as well as for studio and region. This way it is possible to search for titles according to personal preferences, tastes, or academic interests. Not only that: users can choose the number of columns in which to display the profiles (desktop only), hide interactive tags, and locally save their favorite video games. In addition, for each title there are both a button linking to a website with more information and a button leading to a store where it can be purchased – when possible, the reference store is Steam.
Note: the database is constantly being updated. New titles and studios are added regularly, and Excaliber is always open to reports or corrections from the community.
To report corrections on profiles already present, you can write to Giorgio Catania, Founder of Excaliber and creator of the IVGD. To request the addition of a new title, you can fill out a specific form, so that Excaliber can proceed with the inclusion of new information as soon as possible.
The IVGD is Excaliber’s most recent project. It joins already established initiatives of international scope: from the Indie Assemble promotions on Steam to the organization of the Rome Video Game Lab, participation in major business events in the sector, up to collaborations and support for indie studios in the development, localization, and publication of their works.
